Establishing the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Additional Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) and Clarifying th
The Phl is known for having too many environmental laws but weak in implementation and several of these laws/regulations remain vague. There are already 17 pollutants in the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Source Specific Air Pollutants from Industrial Sources/Operations of the Clean Air Act to which is recently added PM 2.5. There is weak implementation in the monitoring and management of these pollutants and thus adding the HAPs listed below should be with sound basis.
Smog With PM 2.5.component
Particle pollution is a mixture of microscopic solid and liquid droplets suspended in air. This pollutive substance, also known as particulate matter, is made up of a number of components, including acids (such as nitrates and sulfates), organic chemicals, metals, soil or dust particles, and allergens (such as fragments of pollen or mold spores).
Updated Water Quality Guidelines (WQG) and General Effluent Standards (GES)
The DENR Administrative Order 2016-08 of 24 May 2016 prescribed revised and new WQG and GES which could impact on the operations of existing facilities and on new investments involving industrial plants.
Climate Change for Beginners
The application of the Writ of Kalikasan and the Precautionary Principle as legal remedies for the protection of the environment continuous to be a challenge and a subject of interest especially for operating facilities and new investments; as well as to the general public who may opt to exercise their concerns for environmental protection through these judicial instruments.
KKK seeks to address environmental issues through the lenses of science and to contribute in the clarification of these issues. It is motivated by the belief that the environment and progress are not zero-sum agendas, therefore a more holistic perspective is possible to minimize conflicts arising from divergent views. When issues arise or when there are diverging perspectives, KKK endorses the use of sound science in the consideration and resolution of the issues.
